The Made In American festival that is coming up this weekend in Los Angeles and though music festivals bring out the best in us…unfortunately it also brings the ratchet out in many. Endless amounts vices can lead us to do more “twerk” as oppose to doing more “FASHION WERK.” But acting like a ratchet isn’t the only way we can offend at festivals, fashion can do just as much damage. I.E: The infamous Native American Headgear worn at several music/dance festivals. A recent trip to the music electronic festival, “HARD” had me admiring the glittery and decorated bras worn by a majority while breaking a sweat dancing. But at several times of the night I found myself face to face with a number of individuals wearing full on Native American regalia. Including one awkward moment with a scrawny looking frail young man wearing a Headdress and Calvin Klein boxer brief shorts-ONLY. Headdress worn outside their ceremonial purpose can chaos and promote racial stereotypes. Not a good image to promote one’s insensitivity to other cultures but a flat out disrespect to Native American culture. We aren’t the only ones that think so, Canada’s summer electronic musical festival, “Basscoast” bans native American headdresses at festival. According to the festival’s website, “We understand why people are attracted to war bonnets. They have a magnificent aesthetic. But their spiritual, cultural and aesthetic significance cannot be separated. Bass Coast Festival takes place on indigenous land and we respect the dignity of aboriginal people. We have consulted with aboriginal people in British Columbia on this issue and we feel our policy aligns with their views and wishes regarding the subject. Their opinion is what matters to us.” -@DivineDiosa Here at Fly Girls, we’d like to share with you non-offensive alternatives to wear at your next music festival experience (*cough*cough* Coachella) #DIOSATALK #FLYGIRLSUNITE #TOGETHERWEAREUNSTOPPABLE
