The best lessons one can understand about life are usually delivered by the ones closest to us, such as family. For Fly Girls the first female role model we have is our mother. She is one of our first pillars of strength teaching us how to live and "fight in this existence." These lessons that we learn from her are given to us in hopes that they transcended to our children and the future generations.
These characteristics and responsibilities of motherhood have made the modern woman weary of having children. Asking herself "How does a woman keep her vision and life a priority with a child?" The real question is "How does she not?
Borica born, and raised in North East Los Angeles, Tanya Melendez is demonstrating how one can balance the art of life by staying true to herself and being a mother. She is the creative force behind NENA SOUL FLY. Her artistic vision that includes henna/nail art, extensions and braiding, clothing and jewelry with all with a cultural meaning. Her line has gotten attention of many including Ms. Erykah Badu herself.
Amongst her business venture she is an artist, dancer, designer, activist and of course mother. Nena Soul Fly spreads love of the world through her child by teaching him lessons that most adults get later on in life. She is instilling at early age for him to question authority and critically think by involving him in protest at a young age. She spreads love through her art which has a deeper meaning than aesthetics. Spreading love by teaching us that we as women can in fact balance a life for ourselves and not lose our identity after giving birth.
